During Seattle Restaurant Week it’s easy to support the work of Good Food Kitchens and other chefs and community-minded restaurants who make free meals for our neighbors in need.
Good Food Kitchens provides funding directly to restaurants and chefs who make free meals for our communities. These include Mojito, a Latin American restaurant that makes anywhere from 125 up to 500 meals per week for community members at the University District Food Bank; Chef Thanh-Nga (also known as Tanya) Nguyễn of ChuMinh Tofu, who, with the help of mutual aid group The Eggrolls, provides free meals every Sunday in Little Saigon; and Spice Waala, an Indian street food restaurant that makes 100 meals per week for Mary’s Place and Community Lunch of Capitol Hill. These restaurants prepare meals every single week – with or without additional funding – to address the significant and rising food insecurity in our communities. Funding from Good Food Kitchens helps to cover the cost of their labor and ingredients wherever possible.
In addition to Good Food Kitchens, there are a number of other incredible efforts with similar missions, from World Central Kitchen, providing support throughout the world whenever need arises; to The Long Haul Kitchen, a mutual aid group supporting unsheltered people in Georgetown and SODO.
During Seattle Restaurant Week, select participating restaurants are helping raise funds for Give a Meal. These restaurants are either donating a portion of their SRW menu sales, or providing a donation link on their SRW menus for customers to contribute. Head to srweek.org and select Give A Meal from the filter options to see which restaurants are participating. Learn more about the restaurants supporting Give a Meal and their SRW menus below.
